Introduction: Tea is a cheering drink. It was first grown and used in China where it was called ‘cha From which the English word ‘tea’ is derived Now a days it is the most popular drinking the world.
Where grown: China is the first tea producing country in the world. Tea is now grown in large quantities in China. Japan, Java, India. Ceylon and Bangladesh. In In Banga Bharat it is largely grown in Sylhet. Dargeeling. Jalpaiguri, Chittagong and Asami Growth: The tea plant grows from four to six feet high It grows mostly on the dry slopes of hills. it requires heavy rainfall in the rainy season.
Sowing: Seeds are sown in March. The seedlings are planted out in rows five feet apart. The plants are regularly pruned. Then they produce plentiful leaves.
Picking: The leaves are picked three times a year The first picking takes place in spring and it gives the finest tea. The second picking gives large leaves of dull green colour but have less flavour The leaves of the third picking are coarse but they have less flavour The leaves of the third picking are coarse but they have hardly andy flavour.
Black and green tea: The tender leaves are generally picked. When they are dried over fire, they make black tea. Sometimes the leaves are soaked before being dried over fire They make green tea.
Preparation: The leaves are put in oiling water After three or four minutes the liquor is ready It is poured into cups through a strainer Then milk is mixed and sugar is added. Thus we get a nice drink.
Conclusion: Tea is a very popular drink. It is now taken by people of all classes and ranks. It is a nice and cheap drink. But too much of it is bad for health. In hot countries it does more harm than good.
